Not all races can be won on the opening lap, but there’s no doubt you can put yourself in a better position by defending certain sections of racetrack, limiting the opportunities to be passed. As we work our way through club racing, regional racing & now into state wide racing, we need to evolve our race craft to the experience levels of different drivers.
I’ve seen countless times before, drivers scoring their first front row start, only to drive a typical race line in the opening sequence of corners and lose multiple spots that are hard to gain over the course of the race. We need to set our race up by positioning the kart in the right areas to maintain our position or gain positions depending on what the drivers in front of us are doing.
