How to Make Effective Changes to Your Go-Kart

Pure driving ability should go hand-in-hand with the right equipment. To say one has the right equipment does not depend entirely on what they use, but also how they fine tune their equipment to their preferences whilst seeing noticeable changes on track. Making changes to your go-kart is by no means easy as conditions vary. However, if you learn how to make these changes, that can be the difference between winning and losing.

One Change At A Time

The most efficient way to set-up your kart is to make one change at a time and not make two changes together in one setup. This can help for a variety of a reasons. Firstly, this can help you further understand the changes you make and how they affect your go-kart given that you are focusing on only one part of the kart. Second, which is the opposite of the first point, is that it can help pinpoint the problems that hinder performance. Lastly, making only one change can contribute and help in the creation of your base setup, which is the setup that you often use at the start of a weekend regardless of where you are racing. A base setup can help in terms of efficiency as this can help you save time by making less changes and get to your ideal setup much faster.

Experience Matters

Speaking of a base setup, this is something that you develop over time by constantly being on-track. In other words, experience matters. Having a ton of knowledge about setups can help you make the perfect setup and adapt to the race track much faster. Even as a rookie, you can build on your experience and knowledge in a short matter of time by seeking the guidance of the more experienced drivers, mechanics, and coaches you know.

Listen To Your Kart

To make the most effective setup changes, it is important to understand first what must be changed in the go-kart. This can be done by continuous laps around the track. These laps do not have to be maximum push ones as the goal is to feel and understand how the kart responds in certain places at the track, from the turns to the straightaways to make the necessary changes. For example, if the kart struggles turning in to a corner on entry, perhaps adjusting the track width is a good change. Then, try again and see if any changes happen. Repeat this process until you have found what you think is the best setup.

Compare And Contrast

Nothing beats objective proof that one setup is faster than another. Therefore, it is important to compare two or more setups by weighing the pros and cons in order to determine what is the best setup for you. There are many things to consider when comparing setups. But from a general perspective, the two biggest ones are comfort and performance. Comfort determines how it feels when driving the go-kart while Performance determines how well the kart performs. The perfect setup is one that achieves balance between comfort and performance.

Some setups might need a driving style adjustment to make it fast, so drivers shouldn’t always be set in their ways. If you’re having difficulties staying on top of the ever evolving track conditions, our kart setup program is the best place to start so you make the right adjustments when required.
