THE TRUTH is, that only some drivers are able to drive on track tarmac frequently, much less every weekend. Alas, the simulator. Its allure comes in how the driver can sharpen their skills in the comfort of their home. Granted it requires an investment, the experience is worth it.
We all know the marquee games on the market, iRacing, Assetto Corsa, and Gran Turismo. However, these projects do not place a huge emphasis on the world of grassroots motorsports. That’s why in today’s article, we will give the big three in the karting simulator games world that specialize in go-kart racing.

KartKraft

When it comes to realism in terms of graphics, Kart Kraft easily takes the cake. If visual beauty is one’s main priority in racing games, look no further.
Primarily a single player game, Kart Kraft is best for those wanting to hone their skills on a certain race track. Whether you have the funds to be on track or time constraints hamper you. In terms of competition, time is your biggest foe. Time trials are available that come with leaderboards to see where the driver stands amongst the rest. KartKraft also presents a great KZ option that many players like to drive.
One concern raised by multiple players is that it may get stale over time. Going around a circuit by yourself may be useful, but can get monotonous. A lack of tracks in some countries also makes it hard for drivers in certain parts of the world to hone their craft on their local tracks. Hopefully more development can be done in terms of racetracks.
Opinions regarding physics for this game are mixed. Some compliment it for the force feedback experienced while playing, while others do not feel the sensations they would otherwise feel in an actual race kart.

rFactor2

The game itself caters to many forms of motorsports, similar to other games like Gran Turismo. Thus, to get the karting aspect of this game, one must download the KartSim software.
Quantity is the best that this game has to offer. While it may lack in the physics and graphics department, there are a myriad of tracks available in the game for you to sink your teeth in.
These tracks are also very accurate to the real thing, with most of them being officially laser-scanned circuits, licensed to be used.
However, it is important to note that the game places a bit more emphasis on UK/European tracks, so there is a slight chance that the track you’re looking for is not available. Thankfully, there is a full community in KartSim that features mods that, while not laser-scanned, do their best to closely replicate the track.
With the presence of AI, this also makes the game fun for actual wheel-to-wheel action. Unlike other games where the bots just crash into you, this game knows how to race hard and fairly. There are also features such as great chassis flex physics, and realistic crash damage that further cements this game as one of the best.
All of this best explains why this is the go-to simulator for pro racing teams. Granted it may come at a pretty hefty price, but you will certainly get bang for your buck.
Users can purchase a Kart Sim simulator which is built with a kart chassis and seat to make the drivers feel like they are truly driving a racing kart.

Kart Racing Pro

What this game may lack in graphics, makes up for in amazing physics, allowing for a great driving experience.
With the exception of force feedback that could be improved upon, the game is top-tier everywhere else. From specific kart setup features, to realistic rubber build up to that of actual kart categories, this game is best for those who want to improve their craft whilst stacking up on knowledge.
Kart Racing Pro, similar to KartSim, has a lot of mods available at their disposal for you to download and enjoy a wide array of tracks. Unfortunately, this game has a noticeable lack of AI to race with. However, with the presence of community-led racing leagues, there is much fun to be had.
It can be derived then that this game is one with a very lively community. Mods are the lifeblood of KRP and while wheel-to-wheel racing is not this game’s strong suit, the passionate members of this community make it their mission to provide a space of entertainment and thrill.
