THE 3 INVISIBLE HALF TRUTHS WHEN ADJUSTING THE SETUP OF YOUR KART:
HALF-TRUTH #1
What worked in 1995 is unlikely to be relevant anymore
Karts, tyres and driving styles have changed a lot in the past 25 years. So, tuning your kart the same way you did back then is unlikely to net you the results you are after. Karts are manufactured in much softer material now; tyres aren’t made the same way they once were, and tracks are much more flowing. You need to keep learning how to tune the kart in the current climate to stay in front of the pack.
The truth is being able to realise you can still learn kart setup and what adjustments to make at critical times during a race weekend!
You need focus on your kart. Not what the driver next to you is using!
HALF-TRUTH #2
It’s always the driver’s fault
There are three elements to being fast in a racing kart: the engine, the driver, and the kart.
If any of these three aren’t working in sync, your performance will be skewed. Yes, an experienced driver can drive around certain problems, but if the kart is handling poorly, your chances of success drastically diminish.
So many drivers complain “I can’t drive this kart, it’s crap!”. Without driver feedback to their mechanic or parent, it’s likely a guessing game as to whether you get the setup right or not.
You need to understand what setup adjustments do, so you’re not guessing.
HALF-TRUTH #3
I just leave the kart how it came out the box
There is an element of this that works from time to time when the mechanic and driver get lost. Go back to basics and start from there.
Karts were designed to be in a neutral setup, to allow drivers and mechanics more options to tune from rather than down one path. And if everyone were to keep their karts in the neutral position, where do you find your advantage over your competitors?
You need to test and see what works for your drivers’ style.
IS THE KART SETUP PROGRAM FOR ME?
❌Our Kart Setup Program is not for you if:
Not for you if… You believe you know it all
This program guides you on how to tune your kart in changing track conditions. But if you are under the impression that you know exactly what every setup adjustment alters on your kart then our Kart Setup Program isn’t for you. Even after 25 years of racing at the highest level in world karting, I still learn and make mistakes on race weekends trying to push the boundaries.
Not for you if… You aren’t willing to test
In kart racing, and motor racing in general, there isn’t a one setup fits all approach. Due to different sized drivers, unique driving styles, and tyre degradation, a driver (and their team) must be willing to test to see what works for THEM! It’s no good just copying another driver when you know you’re at either end of the driving spectrum, so this program will be useless if you aren’t there to put in the homework.
Not for you if… You just want to copy your oppositions setup
It’s easy to look at what your competition is using (if you can identify it), but the problem with this is then you don’t have any advantages over them. Testing & tuning is an art and trying to find the 1% difference is what can take you from a perennial podium getter to race winner. Trying new seats, positions, magnesium components and when to use caster are elements you want to know how and when to use to your advantage.
If you’re a driver that tries something once and when it doesn’t work, moves onto the next shiny object rather than finding a solution, then this program might not be for you.
The truth is, when you have a well-tuned kart for your driving style, it’ll make your job of driving, much easier…
The only thing standing between stagnation and success is your ability to stay coachable and doing the work.
✅ Our Kart Setup Program is for you if:
You want to know what adjustments do
If you’re new to the sport and want a better understanding on what a stiff seat will do compared to a soft seat, or when to use full caster or minimum caster, then this program is for you. You will get a better understanding on the adjustments required to suit your driving and always have the resources on you rather than second guessing yourself.
You lack support
Truth be told, it’s always easier and faster to learn from someone with more experience than you. If you currently go to the racetrack, and have no one to bounce ideas off, then it will take you much longer to reach your end goal. That’s not to say it isn’t possible, as many privateers can be competitive. But our program is filled with 25 years racing experience in all categories and multiple engine and tyre compounds, so it’s likely what you’re experiencing we have previously been through.
You want to help your driver
There’s a difference between wanting something and expecting something. Racers who want to learn don’t look for excuses, they look to experts for guidance on how they can be better themselves. This is what we can offer you in our Kart Setup Program, the knowledge from world class experience right in the palm of your hand. Motor Racing doesn’t always come down to the driving, so knowing you’re giving your driver the best handling kart means you’ve done your part and it's up to them now.
So...
If you’re a mechanic who wants to give your driver the best handling kart … you need to be a part of our Kart Setup Program.
If you’re unsure who to listen to at your local kart track, or are sick of asking Uncle Bob what he did in 1999… you need to be a part of our Kart Setup Program.
If you’ve never raced before, but want to learn kart behaviour from day one… you need to be a part of our Kart Setup Program.
And…
If you want the opportunity to learn from one of the world’s best & factory Arrow Karts driver, to give yourself a greater chance of success… you need to be a part of our Kart Setup Program.
