Shifting gears can be as easy as just going up and down gears when you feel like it. But to maximise your performance on track, there’s an art to listening and feeling when each shift should be taking place.
Shift lights don’t necessarily help, as by time the lights start to pick up the increase in RPM, it’s too late, the revs have flat lined and you’re losing power. So as a driver, you need to be in tune with the sounds your engine is making and listening for the right tone on when to change gears.
